Berzelia lanuginosa (Button Bush)

An erect fine foliaged shrub. Flowers are borne in terminal clusters which begin as small green balls but as they develop they become cream in colour. The white flowers eventually burst open from the small balls.

Plant in an open sunny situation in a moist yet deep free draining acidic soil. It will respond to moisture during summer and during periods of prolonged dryness. Pick the flowers as a form of pruning. Be careful not to cut back too hard.

A very useful cutflower at various stages of the flowerhead development. Equally useful as a plant for the rear of a shrub border.
