Diospyros kaki, the Oriental Persimmon, Chinese Persimmon, Japanese Persimmon or Kaki Persimmon, is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Diospyros. Although its first botanical description was not published until 1780, D. kaki cultivation in China dates back more than 2000 years.
This tree is usually grown as an ornamental fruit tree with good Autumn colour of various shades of orange, reddish-purple and yellow. The tree produces a profusion of medium-sized, orange coloured astringent fruit. Thrives in full sun and easy to grow in deep, fertile soils that are free-draining. Virtually pest and disease free but may need some shelter from cold winds and late frosts. Drought resistant once established.Β H 7m x W 6m.
