Doryanthes palmeri (Giant Spear Lily)

Doryanthes palmeri, also known as the Giant Spear Lily, is one of only two species of plant in the family Doryanthaceae, both being endemic to eastern Australia. It grows in a very large rosette about 3-4m across and the leaves can reach the length of about 3m long. The flowering starts in spring and the arching inflorescence can reach 5m long. The individual flowers are blood red and about 10cm across. This succulent perennial has leaves that are hairless and grow in the shape of a sword.
