Bronze Loquat or Taiwanese Loquat, Eriobotrya deflexa, is an attractive small tree with unusual foliage. The toothed leaves emerge a glossy brown-red-green, and mature to dark green. In summer it bears dark pink flowers, followed by fuzzy fruit. Itβs extremely ornamental and is perfect for small gardens. Grow Eriobotrya deflexa in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Donβt let it dry out and prune regularly to maintain its shape. H 6m x W 4m.
Note: The fruits are edible but the seeds are toxic. Seeds and young leaves contain cyanogenic glycosides, which can release cyanide if ingested in large quantities. Symptoms of toxicity can include mild gastrointestinal upset, but in large amounts, the seeds can be harmful.Β
