The Japanese Loquat is a large evergreen shrub or tree to about 6-8m tall, grown commercially for its orange fruit and for its leaves, which are used to make a herbal tea. It is also cultivated as an ornamental plant. The loquat is in the rose family, Rosaceae, and is native to the cooler hill regions of south-central China.
The variety 'Tuiti' is a new variety developed by Pikirangi, with large sweet fruits. The plants are grafted and should fruit in the second year. H 3m x W 2.5m.
