Passiflora edulis 'Golden Passion' (Passionfruit)
PASSIFLORACEAE
A yellow variety with fruits ripening to almost golden. The flowers are 5-8cm across, white and purple, an attraction in themselves. Formed on current season's growth and will flower in the first year. Vigorous evergreen vine with tendrils and deeply lobed green shiny leaves. The stem becomes woody with age. Life expectancy of the plant is 4-7 years.
The fruits are egg shaped, 4-7.5 cm golden yellow with a yellow-orange juicy aromatic flavoured pulp filled with small black seeds. Can grow 1.5-7m per year once established. Self-fertile. Flowers are only open for the day and start to wilt by the afternoon. Needs warm temperatures to be fertile. Insect pollinated. Harvest when fruit changes from green to golden yello, from February to June. Heavy yields of round green to yellow fruit with a yellow-orange juicy aromatic flavoured pulp filled with small black seeds.
