Piper excelsum 'Golden Heart' (Kawakawa)

Piper excelsum (formerly known as Macropiper excelsum) of the pepper family (Piperaceae) and commonly known as Kawakawa (sometimes Māori Kava), is a small tree or shrub of which the subspecies P. excelsum subsp. excelsum is endemic to New Zealand and the subspecies P. excelsum subsp. psittacorum is found on Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island and the Kermadec Islands.

The selection 'Golden Heart' is a compact bushy shrub. Glossy variegated heart shaped leaves with strong yellow centres. Very frost tender, prefers shade. H 1.5m x W 1.5m
