Protea sulphurea, also known as the Sulphur Sugarbush, is only known to grow in the wild in the Western Cape province of South Africa. A vernacular name for the plant in the Afrikaans language is heuningkoeksuikerbos or Skaamblom (shy flower). The plant is slow growing but robust producing terminal medium sized flower heads from Autumn to Spring. Flowers have a silvery-pink sheen with black tufts and beard. Adaptable to a wide range of well drained soil types in full sun. Prune back regularly. Great plant for coastal gardens and flowers are useful for picking. H 1.5-2m x W 1.5m.
