The original Doris wasn't black at all, but a red-skinned, yellow-fleshed plum developed in America by Luther Burbank. According to Burbank's original field notes, Doris was the bonny offspring of a cross between a seedling French cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera) and its Chinese cousin, Prunus triflora (now known as Prunus salicina). Burbank christened his hybrid Doris, though there's no mention in his notes of who (if anyone) Doris was, so he might simply have taken a fancy to the name.

Excellent all-purpose medium-sized plum with purple-black skin and dark red sweet juicy flesh which ripens mid season. Pollinators include Duff's Early Jewel, Elephant Heart and Santa Rosa.

Grafted scions of can be ordered between June and July, and will be grafted onto your chosen main tree. Please contact us for more information.

For larger plants over 1.2m might need trimming at the top if the shipping option available cannot deliver taller plants.
