Schizolobium parahyba (Brazilian Firetree, Brazilian Fern Tree)

The Schizolobium parahyba tree, also known as the Brazilian Firetree or Brazilian Fern Tree, is a very fast-growing tree native to South America's tropical regions. It is notable for its tall, straight, cylindrical trunk, smooth gray bark, and a wide, airy crown with large, bipinnately compound leaves that give it a feathery appearance. It has numerous uses, including being a source of lightweight wood for furniture and construction, and its leaves show promise as an antidote to certain snakebites.
