A large, sweet black grape, it is said to have arrived in New Zealand around 1838 with Bishop Jean Baptiste François Pompallier and was planted in the early orchard plantings in Northland. Now used as a Wavoursome dessert variety. The large black grapes are sweet with full flavour, excellent as dessert grapes. Disease resistant and they ripen in March.
