Xanthosoma sagittifolium 'Mickey Mouse' (Tannia)

Xanthosoma sagittifolium (Tannia) is a tropical flowering plant from tropical America where it has been first cultivated. It produces an edible, starchy corm.

The variety 'Mickey Mouse' is a herbaceous plant that grows to about 1-1.5 m tall. The leaves are variegated and the leaf blade has an interesting shape which resembles the Disney character 'Mickey Mouse', thus the common name. The leaf base part is sagittate, while the upper part is reduced to a thin string. The plant needs partial shade and moist soils to grow well. Water the plant when the first inch of soils are dry. Do not let the plant sit in water.
