Agathis australis, or kauri, is a coniferous tree in the family Araucariaceae, found north of 38Β°S in the northern regions of New Zealand's North Island.
A slow growing New Zealand native tree that maintains its juvenile, pyramidal form for up to 50 years. Narrow leathery leaves are an attractive Bronze-green colour. Smooth grey bark turning scaly when mature. Adult trees form a straight-trunked stately round headed tree. Grows best in rich, fertile, moist, well-draining soil and to about 10m in 30 years. An excellent statement tree.
