The Japanese Loquat is a large evergreen shrub or tree to about 6-8m, grown commercially for its orange fruit and for its leaves, which are used to make a herbal tea. It is also cultivated as an ornamental plant. The loquat is in the rose family, Rosaceae, and is native to the cooler hill regions of south-central China. H 6-8m x W 5-6m.

Note: Seeds and young leaves contain cyanogenic glycosides, which can release cyanide if ingested in large quantities. Symptoms of toxicity can include mild gastrointestinal upset, but in large amounts, the seeds can be harmful.
