Salvia aurea (beach salvia, dune salvia, golden salvia, bruin- of sandsalie, geelblomsalie) is a shrubby evergreen perennial native to South Africa. Salvia africana-lutea is an incorrect name often used in horticulture.
Salvia aurea is an aromatic hardy shrub with unusually coloured flowers borne over a long period. It is fairly fast-growing, up to 1m tall (2m tall in the wild), and very attractive to wildlife. Large rusty-brown flowers emerge from the attractive bracts which stay on the plant long after the flowers drop, and turn from lime green to a rusty brown colour.
