Xeronema callistemon (Poor Knights Lily)

Xeronema callistemon is a species of flowering plant endemic to the Poor Knights Islands and Taranga Island in the north of New Zealand. It was discovered in 1924 and is commonly known as thePoor Knights Lily. The plant is an evergreen perennial that forms lung clumps of stiff, erect, sword-like leaves. When mature, produces horizontal inflorescences with rich, deep red flowers. Requires full and protection from moderate frosts and soils need to be free-draining as they do not tolerate any waterlogging. Perfect for growing in coastal locations. Grows to between 70-100cm in about 7-10 years.
